marks the day when the very first message was sent across ARPAnet from UCLA to SRI, in other words the birth of the Internet!

38 years later, a physical network arose at UCLA to commemorate the events of 1969. This network began at the Broad Art Center and migrated to 3732g Bolter Hall where father of the internet, Leonard Kleinrock, now holds office. The migration culminated at the Free Speech Podium with the distribution of cake to celebrate the birth of the internet. This site is the documentation of these events.

Manifesto of the project

By physically representing the Internet we got to visualize our love for it. A pretty spot an editorial ran in the New York Times Magazine a few weeks ago by a student at Yale [ Nicholas Handler ] who deemed current 20 something generation the "post-everything generation." He writes "the technological revolution, the moveon.org revolution, the revolution of the organization kid, is just as real and just as profound as the revolution of the 1960's—it is just not as visible. It is a work in progress, but it is there."
